Term of the Week: ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude)
ROM — Rough Order of Magnitude is an early, approximate cost estimate. In claims it's the bridge between "we see damage" and a line-item estimate: a defensible range that lets you set reserves and prioritize before a full scope is written.
Why it matters: a ROM you can produce on day one — straight from the loss photos — compresses cycle time and de-risks reserves. And when you can compare ROMs (carrier vs. contractor vs. AI), every line-item gap shows up before it becomes a dispute.
